Affordable Summer Style Series

ImageYou know what’s really frustrating (prepare yourself for a first world problem)? When you find the perfect cute item of clothing and then find out the price is way higher than your budget allows. It seems to me like most magazine and websites feature clothing and items that the everyday person just can’t afford.Affordability is definitely a relative term- everyone’s price range is going to be different. But I want to do my best to make sure I’m presenting affordable items, because no one should feel like they have to spend lots of money to feel cute or dress in a way that fits their style.

That’s why I’m starting the “Affordable Summer style” series. I was nervous tostart this because let’s face it, it’s not always easy to find stylish, affordable items for prices that aren’t expensive. But that’s my goal. Because I believe you can express who you are through how you dress without breaking the bank or being financially unresponsible. This doesn’t mean I won’t ever post items that involve splurging every once in while. But it means that I strive to post items that are more affordable for people like me.

To start off the series, today’s post features an outfit for a casual summer day.

Happy Friday

Happy Friday everyone! Any memorial day plans for this weekend? I love three day weekends. Here are some links for you to enjoy!

Don’t forget to check out my guest post over at That Noise Gallery

What makes you happy? Joanna Goddard of A Cup Of Jo did a post asking what things make you happy. Sometimes it’s fun to just stop and think about the little things in life that bring joy. A few off the top of my head right now are big glasses of cold ice water, clean cool sheets, creamy iced coffee, the fresh bright pink peonies I just bought last night, morning hugs from my hubby, and my cat.

I definitely would love these cement coasters. Must DIY.

Yum- these baked zucchini sticks and sweet onion dip look good.

This may be my go-to outfit this summer for work- black pencil skirt and a comfy tee.

Has anyone tried this method of getting wavy hair? I just might try it this weekend.

My friend Kristen has a blog where she documents her outfits- aren’t they cute?!

Did you know actress Elizabeth Banks has a website/blog? It’s pretty neat- you should check it out.

I really want to try this method to get a perfect french manicure for free! Colored tips are perfect for the summer.

You all probably know my love for all things gold. This 30th Birthday party has a gold, black and white color scheme with an “Alice In Wonderland Meets Palm Springs” vibe. I’m digging it. Especially those gold flamingos. Keep me away from gold spray-paint- it can get dangerous!

Skeptical or hesitant about trying church? Read this article written by my pastor- it’s a good one!

My favorite book on marriage is on sale here for only $5 until Monday- take advantage if you haven’t read it!

I hope everyone has a lovely weekend! And stay tuned for a food post coming up later today!

Boudoir Photography Part 2

To continue about boudoir photography, I thought I’d share some more images of some beautiful, classy boudoir photography. The great thing about it is that you can choose how much you want to wear and what feel you want the images to have, whether that’s playful, casual, dressy, dreamy, mysterious- you name it! Here are a few different looks to inspire…

It’s all up to you, which is the best part! I had a great experience with Shannon of Studio Carre doing an outdoor shoot. Her package comes with a stylist that does your make-up and hair, which was so much fun! Here’s one of the less revealing photos from the shoot. She did a great job.

Whether you’re engaged, your anniversary is coming up, or for no reason at all, boudoir photography can be a great experience. I would make sure that you sit down with your photographer and get comfortable with her. Don’t be afraid to tell her what you really want, the feel you are going for, where you are comfortable shooting, etc. If you’re comfortable shooting outside and your photographer knows of some very private places to shoot, you can get some great shots with wonderful lighting! But if you’re not comfortable with it, I wouldn’t recommend doing it outside. Do what is comfortable and sexy to you, appreciating the body God gave you. If you’re doing it as a gift, know that you are creating art that your husband will LOVE.

Have any of you done boudoir photography before? Did you have a good experience? Have you never done it but are considering it, and have questions? Let me know!

Such a funny word, right? Fun to say. Anyways, I love how this look adds a little sass to an otherwise normal look.

Need Me Some Neon

I could definitely use a litte bit of neon in my life, to brighten things up. I especially love it when paired with a nude color, like below.

Playful Pleats

Good morning! Today I thought I’d share my growing love for pleated skirts and dresses. Whether short or long, they strike my fancy. This weekend I wore this pleated maxi-dress (only $36 at Kohl’s!) to a wedding. The other skirts and dresses above are just lovely, don’t you think?

I also love pairing pleated skirts with a casual top like below- a little casual glam hits the spot.

Style Icon: Elizabeth Olsen

I’ve always had an inexplicable girlcrush for the Olsen twins. I like to say it’s just a generational thing, but not every other girl in my generation feels the same way. I’m not exaggerating either. In high school, my good friend and I dressed up as them for Halloween. I do not know what we were thinking (but it was kinda fun).

So anyways,  it’s not too surprising that their younger sister, Elizabeth Olsen, has caught my attention. She is an up-and-comer (or maybe she’s already up-and-come, not sure) and has several movies coming out in the near future (Red LightsLiberal Arts, and Very Good Girls). But she is also well-known for her great sense of fashion. I am pretty much loving all of her outfits here. As much as I like seeing what edgy things Ashley and Mary-Kate wear, I could easily wear most everything I’ve seen Elizabeth wearing.

Get The Look: Katniss from The Hunger Games

ImageSo I’m not gonna lie, I too am caught up in The Hunger Games hype. Read all of the books and then saw the movie. I recommend both! So I thought I’d put together a little post about how to capture some of the style of Jennifer Lawrence’s character, Katniss Everdeen. For some reason I find her so intriguing- I think they cast her well. I was a litte thrown off by who they cast for Peeta at first, but I thought he did a good job. Did you read the books or see the movie? What do you think? Hope you enjoy!

J. Crew Spring Jewelry

Happy First Day of Spring! To celebrate, I thought I’d share some fun spring jewelry I’ve been eyeing over at J.Crew. It’s a bit out of my price range, but I just love the animal and flower inspired baubles, especially the giraffe bangle!
